A year's reflection

We take a look back at some of the fabulous Cornish homes sold last year by Jonathan Cunliffe.

Despite unprecedented tumult, 2020 nevertheless saw potent interest from around the UK in what Cornwall has to offer. As evidence of this, we explore three of the wonderful homes sold last year by Cornish property agent, Jonathan Cunliffe.

The first is Carmino House, a six-bedroom country home in Falmouth. One of the town’s finest houses, just 250 metres from the beach, it occupies an exceptionally private setting amidst glorious gardens and grounds of more than 1.2 acres. Victorian in character, but sympathetically updated to cater to the modern lifestyle, Carmino House appeals to a growing need here in the UK for a better, more spacious lifestyle at home.

The same can be said for The Old Vicarage in Gwennap, an elegant Georgian vicarage with beautiful private gardens and a detached, one-bedroom garden studio. Outside, a stunning swimming pool with pavilion is just the spot for summer relaxation, away from the madding crowd, and inside, gorgeous contemporary interiors – including a fabulous kitchen/breakfast room with Aga and a wine store – make time spent at home a genuine pleasure. Blending distinct Georgian character with sympathetic contemporary interiors, The Old Vicarage really is a wonderful home.

Finally we head to the coast, specifically Port Navas – a tributary of the Helford river. Perched literally on the banks of the creek, The Garage is described as a ‘waterside masterpiece’, with five bedrooms and a separate two-bedroom apartment. Spacious living areas and beautiful interiors define the accommodation here. Clearly, it continues the trend of homes that have ‘room to move’, but what really sets The Garage apart is just how close it is to the water. Perfect for those dreaming of days spent messing about on the river, it even has its own quayside boat store.

Each unique and offering something different to a spectrum of discerning buyers, these homes epitomise the lifestyle that the last year has left so many of us dreaming of.
